Trooping the Color
|
Trooping the Color Date: June 13, 2009 Time: Parade starts at 11:00 am as Queen leaves Palace at 10: 40 am.
Trooping the Color is the official celebration of Queen Eliza beth II’s birthday. In Whitehall a parade of the Massed Bands and Troops of the Foot Guards and Household Cavalry takes over Horse Guards Parade. To watch the gleaming cavalry divisions on their perfectly-groomed steeds parading up and down the roads around St James’ Park, crowds line the flag-filled royal road of The Mall. The Queen herself can be seen at the head of her troops waving her Royal wave to all and sundry as the Massed Bands pipe out jaunty, military tunes. The tradition of the “trooping of the colors” dates back to 1748 and since Edward VII’s reign the Sovereign has taken the salute. It show off the flags of the different military orders. The Queen appears on the balcony to watch the RAF flypast as the guns salute her from the Tower of London after arriving back at Buckingham Palace.
