Over three weeks in August, Trafalgar Square in London would be vibrant with outdoor dance and theatre event inspired from India Now season commissioned by the Mayor of London. The festival will showcase the exotic culture of India for three weeks. A diverse variety of Indian cultural performances will be performed in the Trafalgar Street. Crowd will be able to enjoy free Indian art and cultural performances.
The main attractions of the Trafalgar Square Festival are the variety of dance performances from India.
“Shiva Dance,” a poetic and aerial dance performance directed by Vena Ramphal evokes the South Indian Sacred Chola bronze sculpture.
A new outdoor performance inspired by the Chakra design in the centre of the Indian national flag will be done by one of the leading South Asian theatre company in UK, Tara Arts. The theatrical performance will celebrate the relationship between London and Delhi.
A new commission from the Bangalore-based Attakkalari Centre will present the sights and sounds of Indian streets and will perform choreography on motor scooters.
In the final week of the Trafalgar Square Festival, at the foot of the Nelson’s Column, the painter from the Limona Studio will paint giant canvas re-imagining London as an Indian city. Against the backdrop of this canvas, a team of fearless aerialists from the French aerial company, Les Passagers, will perform vertical Bolywood dance everyday. London-based choreographer Joan Pires and composer Niraj Chag will also perform in collaboration with Mumbai poster painters.
